Shear Grabs 1.5 m with two hydraulic cylinders.
K.T.S Shear Grabs
When you enter the silo with the shear grabs in the silage and press down the 'upper jaw' the design must cope with heavy strain. This is particularly true when you use the shear grabs on an edge and it only has material in half its working width. We
have therefore chosen to construct most of the shear grabs of high-tensile steel Domex® 650 and Hardox®.
Large opening

Shear Grabs 2.3 m with three hydraulic cylinders.
Look at how much the upper jaw can be opened: 0.86 m. That means that it is easier to maximize the height of the block cut silage.
The 1.9 and 2.3 metre models have three 100 mm cylinders while the 1.5 m model has two such cylinders to ensure that the power of the upper jaw is sufficient for cutting corn silage and very dry grass silage.
Have a look at the tie bar (picture below, showing a 1.5 metre shear grabs) where the tines sit in the welded machined cones in order not to loosen and rotate. The forged steel tines are attached with fine thread M28 nuts.

Reinforcements

A very exposed point is the joint of the upper jaw. Therefore we have chosen to manufacture the side of Domex® 650 and also put in heavy
reinforcements. The dimensions of all joint pins are as much as 50 mm, and those pins are
of course equipped with lubricatable bushings.

Hardox® knives

Shear Grabs 1.5 m.
The knives of the upper jaw are made of
Hardox® for maximum sharpness, durability and strength.
The knives on a silage cutters and their design is very important to provide a clean and even cut in the silage, which prevents
air from coming in with a resulting heat development in the silo.
Rear blade (see arrow in photo above) cuts against an anvil. The reason we use this design is the cutting angle against the material is backward instead of downward. This will make the cut cleaner and smoother
and prevents air from coming in.
K.T.S has some 20 different bolted attachments for the shear grabs.
